RADY and Turning the Page on Poverty

RADY and Turning the Page on Poverty

As a school we are commited to ensuring all children have equitable opportunities so that they can thrive, grow and achieve as well as they possibly can.  We realise that for some children their starting points in life may mean that their journey through education may be met with barriers.  It is our pledge to remove these barriers and ensure that any child who may be experiencing any form of disadvantage which may hinder their life-chances is provided with the support, experiences and opportunities that they require to be the best that they possibly can be.

There is no ‘glass-ceiling’ at Flookburgh School for any child.

As a commitment to ensuring an equitable education for all, we became part of Westmorland and Furness Council’s partnership with Challenging Education in January 2024 with a focus on supporting schools in making life-changing differences for disadvantaged youngsters through the ‘RADY’ project (Raising the Attainment of Disadvantaged Youngsters)

The principles of the ‘RADY Pledge’ are woven throughout our curriculum and within our School Development Plan; we are excited about the positive differences we can make for our children.

The RADY Pledge

We are also commited to supporting children and families who may, at different times in their lives, find demands on the houshold income impact a child’s ability to take opportunities to participate, learn and thrive in all that a school can offer.

To this end, we have reflected on the ‘cost’ to our families of a school day/school year and consider this in every aspect of our curriculum design particulalry, how can we lessen or remove costs associated with experiential opportunites and activities, for example.  Our school uniform is quite generic and there is no expectation for families to purchase a uniform with any school logo.

We also provide ‘Pre-loved and Re-purposed’ clothing for all families at key times throughout the year and have a stock of clothing in school which children can access as and when they need it eg P.E. kit.

We know there will always be more that we can do to support families and children and, through working in partnership with our community and families, we are focused on doing that.
