Remote Education and Learning

Remote Education and Learning

Since the pandemic and the forced closures of schools, we feel it is incredibly important to ensure that we, as a school, maintain our capability of providing high-quality, remote learning for all pupils across our school.  This capability will ensure that children continue to learn in the event of a school closure or, in extreme circumstances where a child is unable to be in school but is still able to learn, remote learning can be provided.

The most recent DfE guidance (August 2024) states:
Remote education would only be considered as a last resort where a decision has already been made that attendance at schools is not possible but, pupils are able to continue learning.

Prioritising Attendance:

Attendance is essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including for their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances.

Remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school. We expect schools to consider it only as a last resort when the alternative would be no education, and only after it has been established that the pupil is, or will be, absent from school. In such cases, remote education can have the benefit of allowing absent pupils to keep on track with their education and stay connected to their teachers and peers.

At our school, remote education shall be provided through the online digital platform, ‘Google Classrooms’ as well as prepared paper-based packs, as required.

Every child has a unique log in and password which will be in their homework book and reading record. Teachers will be able to provide work through Google Classrooms for the children to access remotely.

We have chosen Google Classrooms as our educational platform as it will enable teachers to provide children with a wider range of learning activities. Teachers will be able to write messages to the children, provide work through links or upload videos to their classes. There is also the ability for children to comment on their work to the teacher and access Google programmes such as Google Sheets and Google Drawings.

Through our audit of IT capability and online access for individual pupils and their families, we will be able to provide a suitable device for pupils, such as a lap-top/tablet, appropriate to age and development, to ensure that no child or family is disadvantaged.
