At Flookburgh School we value the importance of further developing our talented teaching and support staff through making sure all continuous professional development is of exceptionally high-quality and, more impartantly, is evidence-based.  All of the training we undertake has to be purposeful; linked to our school development priorities and meets the unique needs of individual children and cohorts of children as they move through the different phases of early and primary education as well as, meeting the needs of staff at different points, at times, throughout their teaching career.  This is why at our school, we take a measured and considered approach to choosing which continuous professional development training to invest in and pose several questions before we make our commitment, for example:

• What is the supporting evidence for a particular piece of professional development?
• What impact for children and staff do we hope to achieve by undertaking such training?
• Does the training meet the unique needs of our children and community?
• Is the training relevant to our context, our curriculum and school development plans overtime?
• Is the training relevant to current societal and educational needs?

As a school, we see the opportunity to be part of the The Great Teaching Toolkit Pilot Project is an investment for both our children and staff.  Working in partnership and collaboration with other professionals across a number of schools will bring great benefits for all.

We are very excited to be working with Evidence Based Education and Westmorland and Furness Council over the academic year, 2024-25, to provide feedback from the project to inform future strategic planning which will support the on-going developpement of high-quality teaching across our schools.
